Serge Monette Trio
The Devil in the Body
Monette presents a new album, his fifth in his career, entitled "Le diable dans le corps" (The Devil in the Body). Serge recounts the lived experiences of his father, his mother, and the heritage of Northern Ontario against a backdrop of country-rock music. Born in Sudbury and residing in Ottawa, Serge is known for his personal lyrics that resonate with a collective spirit. The album's lyrics are written in simple language, and Monette blends the sounds of his spoken word with prose poetry. For example, the song "Joe et Lola" (Joe and Lola) is inspired by a true story about a couple who move to Northern Ontario. The song illustrates the hardships of working in the Timmins mines. The song "Le vieux Coq de la Wosley Bay Road" (The Old Rooster of the Wolsey Bay Road) tells the story of his father's journey from the family farm in Noƫlville to working in the Sudbury mines and driving trucks for the lumber mills of Northern Ontario.
