Our outfit is not so much a band, but a running commentary on the soundtracks of our respective lives. Our hope is that our audience will say, "I love this song", or better still, "I've never heard a band cover this!"
Assembled, The Dead Pennies are a social experiment - a glorious mashup of friends: The anchor, Dr. Randy Innes - a percussive staple in the Ottawa music scene and the Pennies' aesthetic oracle; Marcel Chiasson, the baby, Cape Breton's bass, Hammond and vocal sea monster.
Up front, Rich Rankin is our five-octave gift from Nepean, who is nearing 40 years of vocals, keys and noisemakers. Last, New Brunswick's glimmer twins - Mike "The Prof" Ward on lead guitar and vocals, and Jim Harmon, singing and playing various instruments.
Ultimately it's you: When you come to a Pennies' show, you're in the band.
