THE "URKEL" TO EVERYONE'S "BILL MURRAY":
The story so far of Ottawa nerd rockers, Double Experience.
“Still here and screaming ‘I’m undefeated’.”
These passing lyrics from “Undefeated” - the title track of the forthcoming album by Canadian nerd rockers Double Experience - tell a bigger story. From the moment that their critically acclaimed and CMA-nominated ALIGNMENTS album was released in March of 2020, this Ottawa based rock-duo stopped rolling 20 sided and got to rolling with punches. But by the end of that year, Double Experience established themselves as a live-streaming tour-de-force on Twitch, and were subsequently chosen by Twitch Music staff to launch their artist incubator program, “The Collective”. During that entire process, Double Experience wrote an entire-album’s worth of music with their audience - one song every month, in fact.
By taking influence from WEEZER, MUSE, and COHEED AND CAMBRIA, Double Experience bounce between sounds in a quest to compose music as diverse as an arcade gallery. In doing so, Double Experience have bonded with a passionate global fan-base with their undeniable live prowess amounting to nearly 1000 concerts across 18 countries, opening for all manner of acts, including BADFLOWER, DANKO JONES, JJ WILDE and MC LARS.
By day, mild-mannered band members Ian Nichols (vocals, bass) and Brock Tinsley (guitar) deliver band-oriented workshops and panels at conferences, conventions and festivals (IndieWeek, MAGFest, Ottawa ComicCon), teaching up-and-coming creatives how to take control of their own destiny in a similar way as the duo’s musical alter-ego. The band have cowritten songs with Jayson DeZuzio (Imagine Dragons) and in 2016, their Destiny-themed anthem “The Glimmer Shot” caught the attention of the game's developers at Bungie. Double Experience music has been featured everywhere from terrestrial radio to theme music for streamers and podcasts.
